What Is My Day Master? The 10 Day Masters of BaZi Explained
In BaZi, the Four Pillars of Destiny, your Day Master is the one character that represents you. It is the Heavenly Stem of the day you were born: one of ten, made of the five elements, each in a Yang and a Yin form.

A BaZi chart has four pillars, one each for the year, month, day and hour of your birth. Every pillar holds two characters: a Heavenly Stem on top and an Earthly Branch below. That makes eight characters in total, which is what BaZi (八字) means.
The Heavenly Stem of your day pillar is your Day Master (日主). The days run in an unbroken 60-day cycle that has been counted for more than two thousand years, so the stem changes every day and repeats every ten. That is why you need your exact birth date, and why your Day Master is far more personal than your zodiac animal, which everyone born in the same year shares.

五行How the five elements relate to your Day Master
The five elements feed and restrain each other in two cycles. In the creating cycle, Wood feeds Fire, Fire makes Earth, Earth bears Metal, Metal carries Water and Water nourishes Wood. In the controlling cycle, Wood breaks Earth, Earth dams Water, Water puts out Fire, Fire melts Metal and Metal cuts Wood.
Seen from your Day Master, every other character falls into one of five groups:

强弱Strong or gentle Day Master
A Day Master surrounded by its own element and its Resource is called strong. It does best when its energy has somewhere to go, through Output, Wealth or Power. A Day Master with little support is called gentle, and it does best with Resource and Companions around it. The element that brings your chart into balance is your balancing element, and the free reading names yours.
问答Questions about the Day Master
Can I find my Day Master without my birth time?
Usually, yes. The Day Master comes from your birth date, so the time only matters if you were born close to midnight. This calculator, like many BaZi schools, counts births from 23:00 as the next day.
Is my Day Master the same as my Chinese zodiac animal?
No. Your zodiac animal comes from your birth year and is shared by everyone born that year. Your Day Master comes from your birth day and changes every day in a 10-day cycle, which makes it far more personal.
Which Day Master is the best?
None. Each of the ten has its own strengths and challenges, and what matters most is how balanced your whole chart is, not which Day Master you have.
Can two people with the same Day Master be very different?
Yes. The Day Master is one of eight characters. The season you were born in and the other seven characters decide whether it is strong or gentle, and which element balances it, so two people with the same Day Master can need opposite elements.
